How to Beat the Heat on an ATV Ride
Riding your ATV is a great way to have fun during the summer months. However, here in Tennessee, summer weather can get too hot very quickly. Staying cool while having fun outside is possible with some extra planning, though. Follow these tips to make your next hot-weather ATV ride a success.
Ride Earlier or Later in the Day
It is best to avoid the part of the day when the sun is high in the sky. Between noon and 3 PM, the sun can create intense heat. You can enjoy less traffic and more peaceful road conditions if you ride powersports vehicles early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Staying cool is much easier to do during these times of the day.
Cover Your Skin
As tempting as it may be to lose some of your heavier protective gear, you should stay covered. You will still sweat in shorts and short sleeves, but when it evaporates in the wind, you will feel no relief. Try adding lightweight layers to your gear designed to wick away sweat and keep you staying cool longer. You should also never operate your ATV without wearing your helmet, gloves, and boots.
Stay Hydrated
Staying cool can be hard to do if your body keeps losing essential fluids as you sweat. The key to staying hydrated on hot days is to take frequent, little sips. And while simple water will do the trick, you might also choose a drink infused with electrolytes. Staying cool is easier for your body if you take care of it.
